What led you to curate
anthologies that deal with poetic themes?
In mezzo a tante correnti, volevo avere
una corrente unitaria che avesse la sua forza, grazie all'unità del soggetto,
il che significa che tanti cuori si unirebbero in un solo amore.
In the midst of many currents, I wanted to have a unified current that would have its strength, thanks to the unity of the subject, which means that many hearts would come together in one love.

Which of your personal
books describes you the most?
Poiché scrivo in molte forme, ho molte
scelte. Nella poesia mi rappresenta “Una strada al Cairo”, che è una selezione
di sei raccolte di poesie che ho pubblicato nell'arco di un quarto di secolo.
Nella letteratura di viaggio, “Un fiume in viaggio”; che è una selezione di
tredici diari di viaggio in diversi continenti. Nei romanzi posso scegliere
“L'interprete”; è uno specchio cosmopolita delle voci dei romanzieri in molti
paesi. Nella traduzione (Io sono il surrealista di Salvador Dalì) perché è
un'icona di biografie esplicite di artisti, e nella letteratura per l'infanzia
(Il mio gatto scrive un libro), perché presenta la mia visione della
letteratura per l'infanzia per portare conoscenza, scienza e arte insieme.
Cinque titoli che ho scelto tra 44 libri pubblicati in diverse lingue.
Because I write in many forms I have many choices. In poetry, “A Street in Cairo” represents me, which is a selection of six poetry collections that I published over a quarter of a century. In travel literature, “A River on a Travel”; which is a selection of thirteen travelogues to different continents. In novels I may choose, “The Interpreter”; it is a cosmopolitan mirror of novelist’s voices in many countries. In translation (I am the Surrealist by Salvador Dali) because it is an icon of explicit biographies of artists, and in children’s literature (My Cat Writes a Book), because it presents my vision for children’s literature to bring knowledge, science, and arts together. Five titles I chose from 44 books published in several languages.

Perhaps travel and expatriation represent a favorite part of my poetry, as I am a poet who carries his homeland with him whenever he travels.
Forse il viaggio e l'espatrio rappresentano
una parte preferita della mia poesia, poiché sono un poeta che porta con sé la
sua terra natale ogni volta che viaggia.

What value do you
attribute to poetry? How did this passion arise?
Non mi sembra che ci sia qualcosa di più
rappresentativo della storia umana della poesia. È vero che la narrativa ha una
portata più ampia, una maggiore libertà di formulazione e una capacità più
completa di annotare numeri e statistiche accanto a biografie e narrazioni.
Tuttavia la poesia resta lo specchio più onesto poiché è la voce dell’uomo
stesso. L’abilità dei poeti è evidente nel far sì che questa voce sia un’eco
della loro nazione, un’incarnazione della sua storia, e nel far scolpire il
loro alfabeto con lo scalpello dell’arte nella pietra di quell’eredità.
It does not seem to me that there is anything more representative of human history than poetry. It is true that narrative has a broader scope, greater freedom in formulation, and a more comprehensive ability to write down numbers and statistics alongside biographies and narrations. However, poetry remains the most honest mirror as it is the voice of man himself. The ability of poets is evident in having this voice be an echo of their nation, an embodiment of its history, and to have their alphabet carved with the chisel of art from the stone of that legacy.

ricordo o viaggio o premio ti ha dato maggiore emozione nel percorso dedicato
all'arte e alla scrittura?
Which memory, journey, or
award has given you the greatest emotion in your dedicated path in art and
writing?
La Corea del Sud mi ha premiato con il
premio in denaro più alto, vincendo il Gran Premio Manhae di letteratura, 2014,
e il premio più recente quest'anno (2023) è stato il più basso in termini di
valore monetario, ma l'ho amato moltissimo per due motivi: è arrivato nella mia
terra natale, l'Egitto, e l'ho ricevuto per il mio bellissimo libro che ho
scritto per bambini (Il mio gatto scrive un libro).
Per quanto riguarda il viaggio, è
difficile scegliere tra i 37 paesi che ho visitato, ma ricordo ancora il mio
meraviglioso viaggio a Bisceglie, a sud di Bari in Italia.
South Korea rewarded me with the highest cash award, on winning the Manhae Grand Prize in Literature, 2014, and the most recent award this year (2023) was the least in monetary value, but I loved it very much for two reasons: it came in my homeland, Egypt, and I received it for my lovely book I wrote for children (My Cat Writes a Book).
As for the trip, it is difficult to choose among the 37 countries I visited, but I still remember my wonderful travel to Bisceglie, south of Bari in Italy.

La prima serie di Anthology è stata
(Asia Sings), seguita da (Mediterranean Waves), poi sono arrivate (Ancient
Egyptians, Modern Poets), (Arabian Nights, World Poems) e infine (Nano Poems
for Africa). Attualmente sto pensando al prossimo tema.
The first of the Anthology series was (Asia Sings), followed by (Mediterranean Waves), then came (Ancient Egyptians, Modern Poets), (Arabian Nights, World Poems), and finally (Nano Poems for Africa). Currently I am thinking about the next theme.

Dopo che la traduzione delle mie poesie
in due nuove lingue, azero e urdu, sarà presto pubblicata a Baku e Karachi, mi
sto preparando a pubblicare il mio libro (Naguib Mahfouz – The Narrator and
Artist Arts) in inglese e serbo. Il libro presenta l'interazione degli artisti
visivi con le opere del grande romanziere vincitore del Premio Nobel per la
Letteratura (1988).
After the translation of my poems into two new languages, Azerbaijani and Urdu, will soon be published in Baku and Karachi, I am preparing to publish my book (Naguib Mahfouz – The Narrator and Artist Arts) in English and Serbian. The book presents the interaction of visual artists with the works of the great novelist who won the Nobel Laurate in Literature (1988).

projects?
Calcolo la mia età in base ai libri che

I calculate my age by the books I publish. I am not sixty. I have 44 books, which means I have 44 years of age, and I will add perhaps four years at once with the publication of the four new books I mentioned above.

How do you manage your
work with authors?
Mi metto sempre nei panni degli altri
autori. Tutti pensano di meritare tutta l'attenzione, quindi rispondo a tutti e

I always put myself in the place of other authors. Everyone thinks that they deserve all the attention, so I respond to everyone, and I make sure that literature is a bridge of communication, not a crossroads to separate us.

What advice would you give
to emerging authors?
Mi è difficile dare consigli, ma credo
che le biografie dei personaggi di spicco siano la guida migliore. Per me,
leggere è il mio più grande segreto, la gestione del tempo è la mia ispirazione
più importante e credere nel valore di ciò che faccio è la mia motivazione più
vitale.
It is difficult for me to give advice, but I believe that the biographies of prominent figures are the best guides. For me, reading is my biggest secret, time management is my most important inspiration, and belief in the value of what I do is my most vital motivation.

What relationship do you
think poetry has with technology?
La tecnologia è uno strumento che ci ha
reso più facile l’accesso alla poesia e la sua pubblicazione è diventata più
veloce. Queste sono due cose positive, ma quella negativa è la facilità del
furto letterario e la violazione dei diritti di proprietà intellettuale per
poesie e poeti.
Technology is a tool that has made it easier for us to gain access to poetry, and its publication has become faster. These are two positive things, but the negative is the ease of literary theft and the violation of intellectual property rights for poetry and poets.

i social network sono utili per la promozione e divulgazione di un opera e
progetti?
How useful are social networks for the promotion and
dissemination of a work and projects?
I social network, come le stazioni della
Via della Seta in passato, hanno reso facile l'incontro e lo scambio di poesie
tra le carovane di poesia, ma spero che diventino un punto di ingresso per i
poeti per ottenere da loro valore sia letterario che materiale, poiché la
poesia la presenza su Internet dà valore al contenuto e spero che venga
premiato, soprattutto nel campo della traduzione di poesie. È un processo

Social networks, such as the Silk Road stations in the past, made it easy for poetry caravans to meet and exchange poems, but I hope that they will be an entry point for poets to gain both literary and material value from them, as the poetic presence on the Internet gives the content value, and I hope that it will be rewarded, especially in the field of poetry translation. It is a necessary process for understanding poetry, its spread and development.
